SaaS and software operations

What should a SaaS subscription include?

A subscription is a relationship, not just a recurring price. Here is what should be stated before a customer pays.

State the price and interval plainly

Show the amount, currency, billing interval, and whether the charge renews automatically. Hidden renewals are the most common source of disputes.

List what is included and excluded

Features, usage limits, storage, user counts, support level, and any add-ons that cost extra should be enumerated in the plan description, not discovered later.

Explain cancellation and expiry

Describe how to cancel, when cancellation takes effect, whether the current period is refunded, and what happens to data and access after expiry.

Handle payment failure honestly

Define the retry behaviour, the grace period, and the access consequences when a payment fails. Do not surprise customers by revoking access immediately without notice.

Provide records

Customers should be able to review their subscription status, invoices or payment records, and renewal dates in their account.
